The storyteller sets the vision, values and agenda of an entire generation that is to come and Disney has a monopoly on the storyteller business. You know what? I am tired of that bullshit, I am going to be the next storyteller” and he walked out with his bagel.
A lot of people in our industry haven’t had very diverse experiences. So they don’t have enough dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solutions without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have.
When I look at the success I have, it’s because of my creative-thinking skills. And I would extend that out to anybody in any field who is immensely successful

Walter Isaacson Commencement speech at Pomona College - May 19, 2013 (by PomonaCollege)

What a wonderful speech, my favorite this year so far…

As we enter the era of Big Data, I find this sentence pretty interesting to keep in mind…

The reason for much untainted admiration, I suspect, is that we are not mourning a leader or an innovator. Steve may have led and innovated his whole life but he was, ultimately, an artist. Those behaviors, which we may not condone in a leader, we forgive and even expect of an artist.

I hope the message that people really take, really internalize is that being yourself, as hard as you can, is the way to have important and lasting impact on our world. That might be in the context of technology. It might be in the context of technology, or the arts, or sports, or government, or social justice — or even in the context of your family and close friends.
